Whine - Spokes people

Have you ever really paid attention to who is doing the voice-over for a particular product or service on the radio or TV?

How many people are actually going to buy a product or service, or stop at a store / restaurant because of the spokes person?  I'm not talking about "Oh, I heard that such-place has this-thing."  I mean "Oh, such-and-such did the voice over for this-place, so let's go there!"  And how many times have you heard a commercial, and said "I don't know what they were selling, but that was such-and-such."  Okay, so maybe Mrs. Douglas (aka Ms. Zeta-Jones) is attractive, but are you really going to sign up for T-Mobile because she is touting it?  Or because their service and or coverage and or pricing is better to AT&T or Verizon?

While watching the 2009 Wimbledon tennis tournament, I frequently saw Federer ads with him seemingly promoting Rolex watches.  Does one buy a Rolex because Roger wears one?  "Fine watch you are wearing."  "Why thank you.  It's the same watch Roger Federer wears."  If you can even afford a Rolex, do you even care?!!?

Do you believe these celebrities?  Are they hocking the item / company / service because they actually believe in it (regardless of what they may say in the ad), or are they just in it for the pay check?

This whine isn't about those who may have actually benefited from a product and are proof of it.  I don't think there are too many examples of that other than, say, Valerie Bertinelli as the face of Jenny Craig.  Nor about, say, the lovely Jennifer Love Hewitt dishing on Neutrogena - of course, if she actually uses the product.

And how much do these people make anyway?  I have not been able to locate any information yet regarding how much some might make, but I am sure it is probably a respectable amount (I welcome a link to some information).

Below is a small list of some celebrities that are selling something.  It is true that you actually SEE some of them, but that almost makes it worse.

John Houseman - Smith-Barney
James Earl Jones - Verizon
Gene Hackman - Home Depot
Catherine Zeta-Jones - T-Mobile
Roger Federer - Rolex
Rachael Ray - Dunkin' Donuts
Ellen De Generes - American Express

Cheese - Swiss

Why is my first cheese Swiss Cheese?  I have no idea.  This versatile cheese can be found in delis and the dairy cheese case at the supermarket.  Pre-sliced too.  Personally, Swiss cheese is one of my favorite cheeses.  I used to eat it by the quarter inch slice while playing video games with my friend at the deli on the corner.

Swiss goes well with a number of foods, and is tasty all by itself.  You can frequently find Swiss cheese on sandwiches with ham or turkey, though it goes will with other meats.  Swiss cheese is also a key ingredient in a Rueben, Monte Cristo, and a  Tuna Melt.  Swiss can even by grilled in a sandwich.  And it is a common cheese on burgers too.  Okay, now I'm getting hungry....  Swiss can be used to make Chicken Crodon Bleu as well, though sometimes a sharper cheese can be used.  Swiss makes a great cheese in an omelet, especially with mushrooms.

Swiss can be now be purchased in low fat varieties.  There is a cheese called Loraine Swiss, but I don't think that qualifies as a real Swiss.  Feel free to look it up yourself, if you want....

Were you ever told, or did you ever tell someone that the moon was made of Swiss?  I used that line on a girl I was dating once when I was a teenager.  I swear she almost believed me.  Seriously.

So, Swiss cheese is an off white, almost yellow cheese. The texture is smooth and the cheese has holes. The holes are of various sizes, and, generally, are caused from bacteria that releases carbon dioxide gas.  The intent is to not go into a full definition and tribute to Swiss cheese (or other cheeses in the future).  There are decent resources for more information such as Wikipedia.  You can Google Swiss cheese and get even more information.
