Whine - Celebrity award programs
As I write this - Sunday, September 20, 2009 - tonight is Emmy Awards® night. Primetime Emmy Awards® night. As opposed to Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards® night. Or the Early Evening Emmy Awards, or the Late Night Emmy Awards.
It is the 61st awards, so they've been around for a while. But his brings to mind some of the other awards that there are programs for - or no programs for, but they still exist.
Consider these (all the below are registered trademarks of their respective organizations, all rights reserved):
| Emmy Awards | |
| Oscars (aka The Academy Awards) | |
| MTV Awards | |
| People's Choice Awards | |
| Grammy Awards | |
| Golden Globes | |
| Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards |
Wait, I'm not done:
| American Movie (AFI) Awards | |
| Director's Guild Awards | |
| Teen Choice Awards | |
| Independent Spirit Awards | |
| Guild Awards | |
| NAACP Image Awards | |
| American Cinematheque Award |
Wait, I'm still not done:
| Blockbuster Entertainment Awards | |
| Critics Awards | |
| Film Excellence Awards | |
| NBR Awards | |
| I'm sure there are others, smaller, lesser known awards. |
I'll admit that some of these awards are company specific, such as the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards (I think that may be the only one, though). There are some, of which some are not listed, that are organization specific, such as the BAFTA Awards (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), the American Movie Awards given by the AFI, and certain Critic groups (such as the Kansas City Critics, London Critics Circle, and US National Society of Film Critics).
I don't want to include the groups in my whine. Seriously, the Critic Awards are fine. They are allowed that, plus I don't think they take up any air time with their awards, nor do I, outside of typing this, ever recall ever hearing about them.
It is a little misleading about some of these awards because they transcend more than one medium. The Oscars are film specific. The Emmys are TV specific. Some are both: Golden Globes, MTV Awards, People's Choice Awards. So a TV actor is not necessarily in line for all the awards, just some, if not most, of them.
Of course you could also argue that MTV is entitled to their say. Or Blockbuster. Or the NAACP. But who cares about them other than the companies that back them - from a financial perspective, I'm sure - and the award recipient? Another thing an actor/actress can put on their résumé in order to command an even higher salary.
But let's be serious. How many of these damn award programs do we need? OK, so they aren't all televised, but come on... If an actor wins an Oscar, does anyone care that they did or didn't win an MTV award and or a People's Choice Award? Yea, you could argue that there are different groups of people voting on who wins what. After all, the Golden Globes are based on the Foreign Press. The People's Choice Awards are based on... the people?!!? The SAGs are voted on by... fellow actors and other people in the industry?!!? But again, if an actor wins an Oscar, do we care what some other group of people think? So who's to say which group is the "overall créme de la créme" of awards? I don't care, pick one. OK, pick two. But the rest of them?: GO AWAY!!!

Havarti is creamy and semi-soft with irregular small holes (not like Swiss) throughout. It is a simple, washed-rind (rindless) cheese. There are also versions with caraway seeds or dill in it. Havarti is named after the farm called Havarthigaard, in Denmark, where Hanne Nielsen first made it.
I used to eat havarti cheese a lot. I don't know why I still don't, but I know I did. Havarti is one of the cheeses that is frequently found on cheese trays at cocktail parties, primarily because it is a mild but flavorful cheese.
You can find more information about havarti here.
